Prostate cancer outcomes following whole‐gland and focal high‐intensity focused ultrasound

A recent observational cohort study in England evaluated the 5-year failure-free survival (FFS) outcomes of 1,381 men treated with high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for localized prostate cancer. The study utilized national cancer registry data, radiotherapy data, hospital records, and mortality records. Results showed a FFS rate of 96.5% at 1 year, 86.0% at 3 years, and 77.5% at 5 years. Notably, FFS varied significantly based on the International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) grade group, ranging from 82.9% for grade group 1 to 30.8% for grade group 5. The study emphasizes the importance of informed decision-making for salvage radical treatment after HIFU.
