Proteomic profile of the acquired enamel pellicle of children with early childhood caries and caries‐free children

This cross-sectional proteomic study compared the acquired enamel pellicle protein profile of 3-5-year-old children with early childhood caries (ECC) and caries-free children. The analysis identified 241 proteins, with certain proteins found exclusively in the caries-free group, including basic salivary proline-rich protein 1 and 2, Cystatin-B, and SA. Comparing the caries-free and ECC groups, lower protein levels were observed in the caries-free group for various proteins, while certain proteins such as histatin-1, statherin, and salivary acidic proline-rich phosphoprotein ½ were found at higher levels in the caries-free group. These findings provide insights into potential protective functions and new therapeutic strategies for ECC.
