Psychological, behavioural, and physical aspects of caregiver strain in autism-caregivers

Autism caregivers experience higher levels of caregiver strain compared to those caring for individuals with other chronic conditions, putting them at greater risk for psychological, behavioral, and physical health issues, according to a recent study. The study's findings reveal that autism caregivers report more stress and are more likely to suffer from anxiety and depressive disorders than non-autism caregivers. While some health behaviors were similar, autism caregivers showed lower lymphocyte and monocyte counts, suggesting an altered immune balance. These results emphasize the need for greater support and assistance for autism caregivers in managing their unique challenges.
