Pulsed Field Ablation for the Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation: PULSED AF Pivotal Trial

Pulsed Field Ablation for the Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation: PULSED AF Pivotal Trial

The article discusses the effectiveness of pulsed field ablation in treating atrial fibrillation (AF). Pulsed field ablation uses electrical pulses to induce cardiac cell death, and has been found to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional catheter ablation while preventing thermally mediated complications. The PULSED AF study was conducted on patients with paroxysmal or persistent symptomatic AF refractory to antiarrhythmic drugs, and the primary effectiveness endpoint was freedom from a composite of acute procedural failure, arrhythmia recurrence, or antiarrhythmic escalation through 12 months. The study found that pulsed field ablation was effective in 66.2% of patients with paroxysmal AF and 55.1% of patients with persistent AF, with a low rate of primary safety adverse events.
