Pune's Zika virus cases have risen to 12, with a 31-year-old pregnant woman from Yerawada testing positive. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) emphasizes the risk of microcephaly in fetuses if pregnant women contract the virus, particularly in the first trimester. To address this, the PMC held meetings with private hospitals to ensure timely reporting and preventive measures. The city has detected Zika in six pregnant women, and PMC has screened over 10,000 homes for mosquito breeding sites. Private hospitals have been directed to test all pregnant women for Zika and check for fetal anomalies.
