A recent study addressed the diagnostic challenge of radiolucencies near root apices in patients with cemento-osseous dysplasia (COD) that may resemble periapical cysts (PC). The study sought to differentiate between COD and PC by utilizing quantitative texture analysis via cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Twenty-five patients with each condition were retrospectively analyzed. Texture features extracted from CBCT images demonstrated significant differences between COD and PC, indicating CBCT texture analysis as a promising tool for accurate diagnosis and subsequent treatment planning.
