A study unveiled a groundbreaking optical approach for identifying drug-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (ARONJ) with unprecedented accuracy. Using shifted-excitation Raman difference spectroscopy combined with deep neural network refinement, bone tissue viability can be determined with remarkable precision. The study, which examined 40 surgical specimens from 28 patients, achieved 100% sensitivity, specificity, and overall accuracy in distinguishing osteonecrotic lesions from healthy bone. Additionally, it provided valuable insights into bone mineral content, quality, maturity, and crystallinity, potentially revolutionizing ARONJ diagnosis and treatment.
