Rapid Atrial Constant Pacing Effective in Preventing Atrioventricular Node Injury (AVN) During Cryoablation for AVNRT

A recent study investigated the efficacy of a novel method to prevent injury to the atrioventricular node (AVN) during cryoablation for AVN reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT). The study involved 157 patients with AVNRT, with Group A (74 patients) undergoing rapid atrial constant pacing (RACP) during cryoablation and Group B (83 patients) undergoing cryoablation during sinus rhythm. Results showed no significant difference in freedom from AVNRT at 12 months between the groups. However, the duration of AVN conduction injury (IAVN) was significantly longer in Group B. Notably, no permanent IAVN requiring pacemaker implantation occurred in either group. The study concludes that RACP is beneficial in preventing sustained and severe IAVN during cryoablation for AVNRT.
