Reduced Insulin Sensitivity Linked to Albuminuria Development

Reduced renal insulin signalling was linked to the onset of albuminuria in a study involving 170 adults. The study, over a median follow-up period of 13.6 years, revealed that individuals with lower insulin sensitivity had a higher risk of developing albuminuria after the onset of diabetes. Specifically, decreased insulin sensitivity at both submaximal and maximal insulin stimulation levels was associated with an increased risk of albuminuria, highlighting the potential role of insulin signalling in developing proteinuria.
