This trial examined the outcomes of fixed and removable implant-supported prostheses for rehabilitating atrophied distal extension maxillary ridges. Fifty-four participants were randomly assigned to three groups: Group I received fixed restoration supported by three long implants, Group II received fixed restoration supported by one long and two short implants, and Group III received a removable partial denture assisted by one long implant. Measurements were taken at different intervals to evaluate factors such as plaque index, gingival index, pocket depth, implant stability, crestal bone loss, and patient satisfaction. The study found that fixed restorations with long or short implants had higher implant survival rates, improved stability, reduced bone loss, and increased patient satisfaction compared to implant-assisted removable partial dentures. However, removable partial dentures showed better soft tissue health and satisfaction with surgery, healing, and cleaning.

A review suggests that oxidative stress may stabilise HIF-1α in alveolar macrophages despite normal oxygen levels in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. ROS-HIF-1α crosstalk could reprogram macrophages toward profibrotic activity and impair lung homeostasis, linking environmental exposures to fibrosis progression and highlighting a potential pathway for future therapeutic research.

A systematic review of 28 studies found consistent links between poor sleep quality, obstructive sleep apnea and nocturia with female lower urinary tract symptoms. Women with overactive bladder or urinary incontinence also reported poorer sleep. Variants of uncertain significance occurred in 4.4% and incidental findings in 1.5%, supporting pES as an important antenatal diagnostic tool.

NEUROLOGY

The findings are hypothesis-generating and require validation.
