New research reveals a significant connection between depression and anemia in middle-aged and elderly individuals in China. A comprehensive study using cross-sectional and longitudinal data examined the association, finding that depressive symptoms can increase the risk of anemia. The study, based on the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, included over 10,000 participants. Results show that individuals with depressive symptoms are more likely to experience anemia, and the risk escalates with the severity of depression. These findings underscore the need for holistic healthcare approaches addressing both mental health and physical well-being in this demographic.
