This case-control study investigated the relationship between preoperative factors, such as the 10-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk score and statin administration, and the occurrence of rotator cuff retear. A total of 182 patients with symptomatic full-thickness rotator cuff tears who underwent arthroscopic repair were included. The study found that missed statin therapy, higher 10-year ASCVD risk score, and fatty infiltration of the infraspinatus muscle were independent factors associated with retear. Furthermore, patients who did not receive statin therapy had a significantly higher retear rate than those who received it. The study suggests that optimal statin therapy may improve the integrity of rotator cuff repair in these patients.
