A study examined the potential of Relative Fat Mass (RFM), a novel obesity marker calculated using height and waist circumference, in predicting atrial fibrillation (AF), heart failure (HF), and coronary artery disease (CAD). Analyzing data from 95,003 participants, they found RFM to be significantly associated with all outcomes after adjusting for risk factors. The study also proposed RFM cutoffs (≥26 for men, ≥38 for women), offering a more straightforward measure for obesity and cardiovascular risk assessment compared to traditional metrics like BMI and waist circumference. Age-specific cutoffs were also established.
