Remote Tai Chi Trial Shows Potential for Veterans with PTSD

Initial results from a two-phased, fully remote study indicated that Tai Chi may be a feasible and acceptable intervention for Veterans with PTSD and chronic pain, presenting a promising alternative to mind-body therapy. In Phase One, 12 participants were non-randomly assigned to Tai Chi or a Wellness comparison, and the interventions were adapted for online delivery. In Phase Two, 36 Veterans were randomly assigned to the two interventions, with the primary goal to assess feasibility and acceptability. The study concluded that both Tai Chi and Wellness interventions were suitable for virtual delivery, providing crucial insights to inform future large-scale randomized controlled trials that will explore the efficacy of Tai Chi for treating PTSD and chronic pain in the Veteran population.
