The study analyzed individuals with type 1 diabetes and found that many still had circulating C-peptide, even years after diagnosis. The analysis involved both longitudinal and cross-sectional data, revealing that age at diagnosis strongly influenced C-peptide secretion decline. The cross-sectional analysis indicated that 19.4% of participants had residual C-peptide secretion, which was associated with a lower risk of type 1 diabetes and certain complications. The findings suggest that even low C-peptide concentrations may have a positive impact on complications associated with type 1 diabetes.
