Retear Impact After Rotator Cuff Repair

Retear Impact After Rotator Cuff Repair

This cohort study evaluated the midterm effects of retears after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) on functional outcomes. Among 130 matched patients, retear outcomes showed minimal impact at 1-year follow-up but significantly worse scores on pain (PVAS), function (FVAS), and ASES at an average follow-up of 6.9 years compared to healed repairs. Larger anteroposterior retears and subscapularis involvement were linked to poorer outcomes. Despite improvements in all cases, retears posed a greater challenge over time, emphasizing the need for careful management.
