The study aimed to investigate the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on the prevalence and severity of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and associated metabolic phenotype in youth with obesity. Participants recruited during the pandemic had a higher prevalence of NAFLD and higher intrahepatic fat content compared to the control group. The study suggests that environmental and behavioral changes during the pandemic may have exacerbated hepatic health differences, highlighting the importance of considering these factors in patient care to minimize future metabolic risks.
