A recent study investigated the risk factors contributing to recurrent febrile urinary tract infections (FUTIs) in children with neurogenic bladder (NB) who perform clean intermittent catheterization (CIC). Over two years, 321 children with NB were enrolled, and their data were analyzed. The results showed that late initiation and low frequency of CIC, vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), small bladder capacity and low compliance, and detrusor overactivity were associated with a higher risk of recurrent FUTIs. Moreover, children with high-grade VUR had a significantly higher risk compared to those with low-grade VUR. This study emphasizes the importance of identifying and managing these risk factors to prevent recurrent FUTIs in children with NB.
