A study has pinpointed vital risk factors associated with Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM) in children. CSOM, defined as persistent ear discharge over two weeks, can lead to hearing loss. The study analyzed 739 papers and found that low birth weight (below 2500g) and atopy were linked to an increased risk of CSOM. However, male sex, passive smoking exposure, and parental history of otitis media showed no significant associations. The findings highlight the importance of addressing these factors to reduce CSOM's impact on children's health.
