This study assess the risk of incident chronic kidney disease (CKD) in individuals with metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) and metabolically unhealthy normal weight (MUNW). Analyzing eight prospective cohort studies with around 5 million participants, the study reveals that both MHO and MUNW conditions pose a higher risk for developing CKD compared to metabolically healthy normal weight (MHNW). The overall hazard ratios for incident CKD in MHO, MUNW, and metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO) were 1.42, 1.49, and 1.84, respectively. Additionally, cardiometabolic and renal risk factors were unfavorable in MHO and MUNW compared to MHNW.
