Risk of Type B Dissection in Marfan Syndrome: The Cornell Aortic Aneurysm Registry

The study revealed that with the advancement of preventive aortic grafting in Marfan syndrome (MFS) patients, most aortic dissections are now type B. A large MFS registry study explored the risk factors associated with type B dissections. Out of 336 MFS patients, 14% experienced type B dissections, often years after elective aortic root replacement. Notably, type B dissections were linked to independent mitral valve surgery, type II dissections, and longer life expectancy, indicating a more severe phenotype.
