Ropivacaine vs Levobupivacaine: Labor Analgesia Comparison

A systematic analysis compared the effects of epidural ropivacaine and levobupivacaine on maternal and fetal outcomes during labor. The study, involving 2062 participants, found no significant difference between the two agents in terms of hypotension, pruritus, and delivery outcomes. However, ropivacaine was associated with a higher risk of nausea and vomiting (RR: 1.60, 95% CI: 1.05 – 2.44). Fetal outcomes, including Apgar scores and neonatal asphyxia, were comparable between both groups. The study concluded that both anesthetics are equally effective for labor analgesia, with minimal differences in adverse maternal effects. Further research is recommended to address the limitations observed in this analysis.
