Among the 19,986 patients studied, SGLT2is showed a reduced risk of acute kidney injury compared to the placebo group. However, there was an increased risk of genital tract infections, particularly a six-fold rise in occurrence. Amputations were slightly higher among canagliflozin users. Notably, elderly patients are underrepresented in most trials, emphasizing the need for more age-stratified clinical trials to ensure accurate safety assessments. Despite this, SGLT2is appear well-tolerated and effective for older diabetes patients.
