Safety, tolerability and short‐term efficacy of transvaginal fractional bipolar radiofrequency therapy for symptoms of stress and or mixed incontinence in conjunction with genitourinary syndrome of menopause

This study investigated the safety and short-term outcomes of a single fractional radiofrequency (RF) treatment of the vaginal canal in women with stress or mixed urinary incontinence (SUI/MUI) and genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM). The treatment used a novel intravaginal micro-needling device that allowed penetration of needles to 1, 2, or 3 mm. The results showed that the treatment was safe, well-tolerated, and provided short-term improvement of SUI/MUI in conjunction with GSM, with significant improvement in all measured parameters at 1-, 3-, and 6-month follow-up sessions compared to baseline. This is the first study to report on using micro-needling to deliver RF energy to the vaginal canal.
