The pilot study validated a non-invasive method for detecting antibiotic resistance (AR) in saliva. AR was found in 48% of samples from healthy individuals, most commonly in Streptococcus salivarius and S. parasanguinis, with no clear link to recent antibiotic use or demographics. Saliva sampling may offer a valuable addition to AR surveillance in the general population.
