New York's Montefiore Einstein Cancer Centre (MECC) has unveiled a groundbreaking test for cervical cancer detection, addressing a glaring gap in current screening methods. The study highlights the test's sensitivity in detecting cervical adenocarcinoma (ADC), a form often overlooked by Pap tests. ADC now accounts for up to 25% of cervical cancer cases and carries higher mortality rates. By assessing methylation levels in HPV16, 18, and 45, the MECC's test identifies high-risk cases, enabling early diagnosis and intervention and offering a promising tool for equitable cervical cancer screening.
