The WHO evaluated tuberculosis screening methods for HIV-positive inpatients. Researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis, analyzing data from six publications with 3,660 participants. The study found that the WHO four-symptom screen (W4SS) and alternative screening tests had suboptimal accuracy. The WHO Xpert algorithm, which combines W4SS followed by Xpert MTB/RIF test, had a sensitivity of 76% and specificity of 93%.
