Second-Line Switch to Dolutegravir for Treatment of HIV Infection

This study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of switching from a ritonavir-boosted protease inhibitor (PI) to dolutegravir in HIV patients without genotype information. The primary endpoint was a plasma HIV type 1 RNA level of at least 50 copies per milliliter at week 48. The study found that 5.0% in the dolutegravir group and 5.1% in the PI group met the primary endpoint, showing noninferiority. No resistance mutations were found, and the groups had similar adverse events. The study concludes that dolutegravir is non-inferior to ritonavir-boosted PI in previously treated patients with viral suppression.
