The study reveals that secondary bile acids (SBAs) influence appetite regulation in rainbow trout. Intragastric administration of SBAs, particularly lithocholic acid (LCA), modulated gene and protein expression in the gut and brain, suggesting a role in feed intake. Unlike mammals, trout showed unique SBA responses, especially to non-conjugated forms. Findings highlight SBAs as novel regulators in fish gut-brain signaling and metabolic control.
