
Spontaneous speech generation is often impaired in chronic nonfluent aphasia (PWNA), affecting communication and quality of life. Traditional treatments rely on external feedback, but their sustainability can be challenging. This study explored the potential of recursive self-feedback, where PWNA self-monitor and correct their speech using iterative self-feedback, to improve spontaneous speech in real-world settings. Using a cross-over design, three participants underwent two treatments at home: one with recursive self-feedback and another with speech model-based feedback. Both treatments showed significant improvements, but recursive self-feedback demonstrated broader and generalized effects, suggesting its potential as a flexible and self-directed treatment. The study highlights recursive self-feedback as a promising tool for enhancing spontaneous speech in PWNA.
