Serum zinc and periodontitis in non‐diabetic smoking and non‐smoking adults: NHANES 2011–2014

A recent study conducted in the United States has found a link between serum zinc levels and periodontitis in non-diabetic individuals, with the association varying based on smoking status. The study revealed that serum zinc concentrations were associated with periodontitis. Nonsmokers had a 9% reduced odds of periodontitis, while smokers had a 14% reduced odds. Among smokers, those with higher serum zinc levels experienced a significant 53% reduction in the odds of periodontitis.
