
In a study of 394 genetic FTD patients, symptomatic females showed lower frontal cortical thickness than males, particularly in the C9orf72 subgroup. Cognitive reserve, modeled using neuropsychological performance and cortical thickness, was higher in females, with sex differences peaking near symptom onset and diminishing afterward. These findings suggest that self-reported sex modulates resilience to frontotemporal neurodegeneration, highlighting the importance of sex in understanding FTD progression.
