Sex Estimation Using Tooth Volume: A CBCT Study on Maxillary Canines

Teeth can provide a reasonable estimate of sex when other evidence is lacking, although not as accurate as bones. This study aimed to establish cut-off values for tooth volume (TV) and root volume (RV) of maxillary canines and assess their validity in sex discrimination. Using CBCT images of 250 individuals, cut-off values were determined. TV ≥ 581 mm3 and RV ≥ 334 mm3 showed moderate accuracy in sex estimation. These findings suggest potential usefulness in cases where only dental evidence is available, though applicability across populations needs further exploration.
