A study evaluated the impact of Glucose Cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) on coronary atherosclerosis in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients using coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA). Analyzing 236 patients with 435 plaques, the study found that SGLT2i treatment led to significant reductions in non-calcified plaque volume (PV) and percent atheroma volume (PAV) while calcified plaque increased. Compared to non-SGLT2i-treated plaques, SGLT2i-treated plaques exhibited greater reductions in overall and non-calcified PV and PAV. Multivariate regression confirmed that SGLT2i therapy attenuated the progression of non-calcified plaques. These results suggest that SGLT2i effectively regresses coronary atherosclerosis, particularly in reducing non-calcified plaque in T2DM patients.
