This meta-analysis compared the changes in body weight and body mass index (BMI) during inpatient treatment to outpatient treatment for obesity. The analysis included seven studies with a total of 977 patients and found that short-term inpatient treatment resulted in a statistically significant decrease in BMI and body weight, while long-term inpatient treatment did not show any significant reductions compared to outpatient treatment. The study suggests that short-term inpatient multidisciplinary weight loss programs could be the best choice for managing obesity and its related comorbidities.
