Keratinocyte carcinomas are the most common form of nonmelanoma skin cancer, including squamous-cell carcinoma and basal-cell carcinoma. They have a higher incidence rate than all other cancers combined and can lead to significant morbidity and healthcare costs. While most cases can be cured with local destruction or surgical excision, some patients experience poor outcomes such as recurrence, metastases, and death.
