SLAMF4+ CD4+ T Cells Drive Cytotoxicity in Rheumatoid Arthritis

SLAMF4+ cytotoxic CD4+ T cells contribute to RA pathogenesis. A multimodal study analyzing RA patients’ blood and synovial fluid identified SLAMF4high SAP+ CCR5+ effector memory T cells (Cytotox-F4high Tem) as a key cytotoxic subset linked to disease activity. These cells exhibit a cytotoxic gene signature and are the only CD4+ CTLs in active RA synovial fluid. Targeting Cytotox-F4high Tem may offer a novel therapeutic strategy for RA.
