A significant number of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) also have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), which increases the risk during surgery. Currently, surgeons do not routinely screen CRS patients for OSA before performing sinus surgery, and validated OSA screening tools are rarely used. This study explored the use of the sleep subdomain of the SNOT-22 questionnaire as a potential screening tool for OSA when other validated questionnaires are unavailable. The study compared the sleep subdomain scores of CRS patients with and without OSA who underwent endoscopic sinus surgery and evaluated the sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic accuracy of the sleep subdomain for OSA screening. The results showed that a sleep subdomain score of 17.5 or higher had a sensitivity of 68.9%, specificity of 55.7%, and diagnostic accuracy of 63% for detecting OSA. Therefore, the sleep subdomain of the SNOT-22 questionnaire could be considered as a screening tool for OSA in CRS patients when other validated tools are not used.
