A study analyzed strategies for smokers who didn't quit after initial treatment with varenicline or combined nicotine replacement therapy (CNRT). Among 490 participants, many failed to quit initially. For those on CNRT, increasing dosage or switching to varenicline improved abstinence rates significantly compared to continuing the initial dosage. For those on varenicline, increasing dosage was notably effective, while continuing the initial dosage was less successful. Results suggest tailored strategies can enhance quit rates for nonabstainers, with dosage adjustments proving beneficial. These findings offer practical guidance for smokers who struggle to quit after initial treatment.
