Societal health and economic burden of cardiovascular diseases in the population with type 2 diabetes in Qatar.

In Qatar, a comprehensive study has projected the future health and economic toll of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D). The dynamic multistate model, focusing on individuals aged 40 to 79 years, estimates over a decade, approximately 108,195 non-fatal myocardial infarctions (MIs), 62,366 non-fatal strokes, and 14,612 CVD-related deaths. Direct costs were expected to reach QAR41.60 billion (US$11.40 billion), while indirect costs were projected to exceed QAR30.31 billion (US$8.30 billion). The study underscores the pressing need for more effective preventive strategies for this at-risk population.
