Sotatercept Takes the Lead in PAH Treatment: Phase 3 Trial Results Released

The study involves a phase 3 clinical trial of a fusion protein called sotatercept, which traps activins and growth differentiation factors involved in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The trial involved adults with PAH who were receiving stable background therapy and were randomly assigned to receive sotatercept or a placebo every three weeks. The primary endpoint was the change from baseline at week 24 in the 6-minute walk distance. The results showed that sotatercept resulted in a greater improvement in exercise capacity compared to the placebo. Nine secondary endpoints were also tested, and the first eight were significantly improved with sotatercept compared to placebo. Adverse events that occurred more frequently with sotatercept than with placebo were also reported.
