South Dum Dum a dengue hotspot with 350 cases and 4 deaths so far this season

Kolkata's South Dum Dum municipality is grappling with a severe dengue outbreak, resulting in four deaths this season. Over 350 cases have already been reported in the area this year. More than 15 wards within the municipality are affected, with residents suffering from high fevers and many testing positive for dengue. Localities like Patipukur, Bediapara, Madhugarh, Mathkal, Debendranagar, Motijheel, and SK Deb Road are among the hardest hit. Residents blame stagnant water caused by monsoon rains for the mosquito breeding grounds. Officials have deployed medical teams to monitor vulnerable areas and conduct surveys. Despite efforts, there's still a lack of awareness, and authorities are urging residents with fevers to get tested for dengue.
