This prospective cohort study evaluated pain perception among patients with spasmodic dysphonia undergoing laryngeal botulinum toxin (BTX) injections and identified factors linked to higher pain scores. Pain assessment was conducted using the visual analog scale (VAS) and the short form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ). The results showed that overall, patients experienced mild pain with bilateral injections leading to significantly higher SF-MPQ scores than unilateral injections. Multiple regression analyses revealed that receiving bilateral injections, being a professional voice user, and having higher Voice Handicap Index-10 (VHI-10) scores predicted higher pain levels. The study suggests that BTX injections were well tolerated, but factors such as injection type, vocational voice use, and voice-related impairment influenced pain perception.
