Staging FDG‐PET/CT for muscle‐invasive bladder cancer: A nationwide population‐based study

This nationwide population-based cohort study evaluated the use and staging information provided by fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) in patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). The study analyzed MIBC patients diagnosed in the Netherlands between November 2017 and October 2019, who underwent pretreatment staging with either CT only or CT and FDG-PET/CT. The results showed that patients who underwent CT and FDG-PET/CT were more frequently staged as lymph node-positive, regardless of the tumor stage. FDG-PET/CT also resulted in nodal upstaging in about one-fifth of patients, potentially influencing subsequent treatment strategies.
