The study involved 37,231 men from 1995 to 2016 and found a higher incidence of prostate cancer in this group compared to the general population. However, the risk of prostate cancer-related death was lower than average (SMR 0.74), particularly in older men. The study suggests that increasing initial biopsy sensitivity is unnecessary, and current post-biopsy follow-up may be overly aggressive, especially in older men. The findings challenge conventional practices for managing non-malignant transrectal ultrasonography biopsy results.
