Statin use and risk of colorectal cancer in patients with inflammatory bowel disease

The study revealed that statin use may reduce the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a high-risk population. A study of 10,546 participants demonstrated that statin users exhibited a 24% lower incidence of CRC and reduced CRC-related and all-cause mortality. Benefits appeared to increase with prolonged statin use. These findings underscore the potential protective role of statins against CRC in IBD patients.
