A recent cross-sectional retrospective cohort study conducted between 2012 and 2021 from Uppsala University Hospital (Sweden) and Paracelsus Medical University Hospital (Salzburg, Austria) investigated the prevalence and potential risk factors for impaired glucose metabolism in children and adolescents with obesity. The study, comprising 634 obese patients and 98 normal weight controls aged 4–18 years, revealed a significant prevalence of 72% in Uppsala patients and 24% in Salzburg patients. However, the prevalence decreased during follow-up, emphasizing the impact of a family history of type 2 diabetes.
