Study Compares Hyperthyroidism Treatments for Cardiovascular Risks

A study compared the long-term outcomes of antithyroid drugs (ATDs), radioactive iodine (RAI), and surgery in treating newly diagnosed hyperthyroidism. Analysing data from over 114,000 patients, surgery demonstrated significantly lower risks of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and all-cause mortality compared to ATDs. RAI was associated with a lower MACE risk compared to ATDs. These findings underscore the potential benefits of surgery and RAI in reducing cardiovascular risks in hyperthyroidism patients.
