Study Compares Visual Outcomes of Surgical Treatments for Submacular Hemorrhage

A retrospective study compared the visual outcomes and postoperative complications of Pars Plana Vitrectomy (PPV) with tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) injection and pneumatic displacement with intravitreal tPA injection for submacular haemorrhage. Evaluating 150 patients over a year post-surgery, PPV demonstrated superior visual outcomes for small haemorrhages. PPV and tPA combination emerged as a more effective treatment, especially for small and medium haemorrhages. The study highlighted the advantages of PPV with tPA in improving visual acuity, addressing the uncertainty surrounding optimal treatment strategies for submacular haemorrhages.
