Study Explores Link Between Branched-Chain Amino Acids and Diabetic Kidney Disease Progression

The current study delves into the intricate relationship between circulating branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) and diabetic kidney disease (DKD). The study, focusing on patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at various DKD stages, reveals elevated serum BCAA levels in diabetes patients compared to healthy counterparts. Surprisingly, as DKD advances, BCAA levels decline while independent correlations with renal function indicators emerge. The findings suggest the potential of serum BCAA concentrations as a predictive marker for the onset and progression of DKD in individuals with type 2 diabetes.
